Add your domain settings at GoDaddy, Cloudflare and more

Step-by-step help copying your Stacklist settings at GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap, Squarespace, Wix, Porkbun, Hover and others.

Written by Kyle Hudson

Once you add a custom domain in Stacklist, you copy a few lines into the DNS settings at your domain company, the company where your domain is managed. Use this article to find the steps for GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap, Squarespace, Wix, Porkbun, Hover and other companies.

New to custom domains? Start with Set up a custom domain.

Before you start

Before you start at your domain company, have these ready:

  • Stacklist open in another tab, on Custom Domains in your settings, with your domain expanded. You'll copy each line from there.

  • The short names. Type only what Stacklist shows, like content. Your domain company adds the rest.

  • The right company. Lines only work at the company that manages your domain. Stacklist often names it right above the lines to copy. If someone else built your website, ask them. They'll know.

Every company's page looks a little different, but you always copy the same three things from Stacklist: the Type, the Name and the Value.

Steps for each domain company

To add the lines at your domain company, find its name below and follow the steps.

GoDaddy

  1. Sign in to your GoDaddy Domain Portfolio and click your domain to open Domain Settings.

  2. Click DNS, then Add New Record.

  3. Choose the Type, then fill in Name and Value from Stacklist.

  4. Click Save. To add every line at once, use Add More Records, then Save All Records.

Note: If GoDaddy asks for a code when you save, that's its Domain Protection. Enter the code it sends you. Connecting a domain without a subdomain? GoDaddy also needs a forward. See Fix a custom domain that isn't working.

Cloudflare

  1. In Cloudflare, open the DNS Records page for your domain.

  2. Click Add record and choose the Type.

  3. Fill in Name, then paste the value from Stacklist. For a CNAME line, the value goes in Target. For a TXT line, it goes in Content.

  4. For each CNAME line, set Proxy status to DNS only, so the cloud turns grey.

  5. Click Save.

Note: If the cloud stays orange, visitors can't reach your page, and Stacklist shows Not reachable. Click the orange cloud so it turns grey. Cloudflare may show a banner asking you to turn proxying on. You can ignore it. Your Stacklist page needs the grey cloud.

Namecheap

  1. Go to Domain List and click Manage next to your domain.

  2. Open the Advanced DNS tab and find Host Records.

  3. Click Add New Record, choose CNAME Record or TXT Record, then fill in Host and Value from Stacklist.

  4. Click Save All Changes.

Note: Don't see Host Records? Then your domain's settings are managed somewhere else, not at Namecheap. Also delete any URL Redirect record with the same name, like content, because it gets in the way.

Squarespace (and old Google Domains)

If your domain moved from Google Domains to Squarespace, these steps are for you too.

  1. Open your domains dashboard, click your domain, then click DNS and DNS Settings.

  2. Scroll to Custom Records and click Add record. Enter your password if it asks.

  3. Choose the Type and fill in Name. Put the value in Data for a CNAME line, or in Text for a TXT line.

  4. Click Save.

Note: Leave any Google records that are already there.

Wix

  1. Go to Domains, click the Domain Actions icon next to your domain, then Manage DNS Records.

  2. In the CNAME (Aliases) or TXT (Text) section, click + Add Record.

  3. Fill in Host Name and Value from Stacklist, then click Save.

  4. When you're done, click Save Changes.

Note: If your domain was bought somewhere else and only connected to Wix, add these lines at the company where you bought it instead.

Porkbun

  1. Go to Domain Management and click DNS under your domain.

  2. Choose the Type, then fill in Host and Answer from Stacklist.

  3. Click Add.

Hover

  1. Open your domain's Overview page and go to the DNS section.

  2. Click Add a record, choose the Type, then fill in Hostname and the value from Stacklist.

  3. Save.

Note: If your domain's settings are managed somewhere else, Hover won't let you add these lines. Add them at that company instead.

Other domain companies

For any other company, sign in and look for a page called DNS, DNS Records, Manage DNS or Advanced DNS. Add each line from Stacklist with its Type, Name and Value, then save.

When you're done

When you've added every line, go back to Custom Domains in Stacklist. It usually takes 5 to 30 minutes. Click Recheck status to check again right away. Once you see Live, you're all set.
