Publish, share and update an Article

Publish an Article to make it public, share its link, and update it after it's live. Changes show everywhere it appears.

Written by Kyle Hudson

Every Article is either a Draft or published. A Draft is private, and a published Article is public. Use this article to publish an Article, share its link, see what readers see, and update the Article after it's live.

Draft and published Articles

An Article has two states:

  • Draft: private. New Articles and imported Articles start as Drafts.

  • Published: public. Anyone with the link can read the Article.

Publish an Article

To publish an Article from the Article editor:

  1. Open the Article in the Article editor.

  2. Click Preview to read the Article the way a reader will.

  3. Click Publish. The Article is now public.

Update a published Article

To update a published Article, open the Article in the Article editor and make your change. The change goes live on the published Article.

Note: There's one Article, not copies, so a fixed typo is fixed everywhere the Article appears.

Share an Article

To share an Article, click Share in the Article editor to get the Article's link, then send the link anywhere. The link opens straight into a full-screen reading view, with no sign-up wall in front of the Article. The page is one column, with a serif body and nothing floating over the text.

The Share Card dialog for a published Article, with the Article's link, a Copy link button, and options to send it by message, email, X, Facebook or LinkedIn.

The end of every Article shows you as the writer, with a Follow button, and the Stack the Article lives in. When an Article leads a public Stack, visitors to that Stack see a Read Article button.

The end of a published Article, showing the writer's profile with a View profile button and the Stack the Article was saved to.

How published Articles get found

Published Articles are built to be found. Each published Article is in Stacklist's sitemap and carries full article information for search engines. Each published Article also has a public version that AI agents can read.
