Import an Article from a link

Paste a link to an article you published on Substack, Medium or anywhere else, and bring it into Stacklist as an Article.

Written by Kyle Hudson

Import brings an article you've already published somewhere else into Stacklist as an Article, so you don't have to write it again. Use this article to import an article from a link, then edit and publish it.

Import an article from a link

To import an article from a link, start from the + menu:

  1. Click the + menu.

  2. Choose Import an Article (From a link).

  3. Paste the article's link into the URL field. The link can point to Substack, Medium, or any article page. Use the link to the article itself, not to a blog's home page.

  4. Check the preview. Stacklist shows where it found the article (for example, Found on Substack), the article's title, author and date, and how many blocks, images and links it found.

  5. Click Import as Article.

The Stacklist + menu open, showing Write an Article (Opens the editor) and Import an Article (From a link).

Note: The imported Article opens in the Article editor as a Draft. A Draft isn't public until you publish it.

Edit and publish your imported Article

After importing an article, read the Draft through in the Article editor and change anything you like. The Article editor has three buttons for what comes next:

  • Preview shows the Article the way a reader will see it.

  • Publish makes the Article public.

  • Share gets the Article's link.

The Import an Article panel with a Substack link pasted in, showing the Found on Substack preview (title, author, date, and counts of blocks, images and links) and the Import as Article button.

For what happens when you publish, see Publish, share and update an Article.

Good to know about importing

A few things to know about importing an article:

  • One article per link. To bring in several articles, import each article's link separately.

  • Your original stays put. Importing an article doesn't change or remove the original where you first published it.

  • Starting from scratch instead? Choose Write an Article from the same + menu. See Write an Article.
